Frequently Asked Questions

Will it hurt?

This is the #1 question we hear, and the answer is: No, it should not hurt. Modern root canal therapy is designed to relieve your pain, not cause it. We use advanced anesthesia techniques to ensure you're completely comfortable throughout the procedure. Most patients report that the procedure feels similar to getting a routine filling. The pain you're experiencing now from the infected tooth is typically much worse than the treatment itself.

What should I expect during my visit?

Before the procedure: We'll review your medical history, take necessary X-rays or 3D scans, and discuss your treatment options. We'll answer all your questions and ensure you feel comfortable.

During the procedure: We'll numb the area completely. You'll feel pressure but no pain. Most procedures take 60-90 minutes. You can listen to music or watch TV to help you relax.

After the procedure: You may experience mild tenderness for a few days, easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication. Most patients return to normal activities the next day.

How long will it take?

Most root canal procedures can be completed in one visit lasting 60-90 minutes. Complex cases may require a second visit. With our advanced GentleWave® technology, we can often complete treatment in a single appointment that might have required multiple visits with traditional methods.

What happens after the root canal?

After your root canal, you'll need to return to your general dentist for a permanent restoration (usually a crown). This protects your tooth and restores it to full function. We'll coordinate with your dentist to ensure seamless care. Your tooth can last a lifetime with proper care.

Is there an alternative to a root canal?

The only alternative to a root canal is extraction (removing the tooth). However, saving your natural tooth is almost always the best option. Tooth replacement options like implants or bridges are more expensive and require additional procedures. Your natural tooth, even with a root canal, functions better than any artificial replacement.
